Fox News Covers the Town Hall Meeting–and the Club’s Opening

Fox News Coverage - Dec. 11, 2007“The location of a former meat market has re-opened as a strip club and neighbors don’t like it one bit. They’re up in arms over the club which is located on South Robertson, near the 10 Freeway. Jeff Michael was at the club’s opening night.”

A solid report from Fox News, although the reporter was mistaken about one key point: the Club has opened without materially addressing any of the community’s concerns.

I have lived in this neighborhood since 1999. I have no plans to move in the near future. I think the “No Robertson Strip Club” campaign is kind of funny. Funny in that our neighborhood just beyond Cadillac Ave is plagued with GANG VIOLENCE and someone was shot on the corner of Cadillac and Shenandoah in Sept. No one seems to care about that as it is not right on your door step. Out of sight, out of mind.
Now that you may have to look at a god forbid a “Strip Club”-which BTW happen to be all over Los Angeles you are all up in arms. South Robertson Blvd is not the Shangri-la people seem to view it as. If the people of this neighborhood are so worried about the Hamilton kids why then were you not in there trying to help them before????? Also, that meat packing business created more traffic then any strip club will. The trucks that they were constantly loading and unloading created a dangerous condition and gridlock all the time. Also-all nude clubs DON’T SERVE ALCOHOL. It is illegal for them to. Be careful what you wish for as you may push out the strip club and just get a regular bar with drunk people exiting at all hours. Or, would that be more acceptable??????? BTW-I am a woman, in my 40’s.

GANG VIOLENCE is NOT “out of sight, out of mind” as you indicated. We are well aware of it - and for more years than you have lived here, we residents HAVE worked with the LAPD, the city attorney office, the high school, the Neighborhood Council and various homeowner associations to try to stop the gang violence. It is very much because of gang violence and the proximity to the high school that we are opposed to the strip club. It is going to be more trouble on our plates, more time away from cleaning up our neighborhood and trying to stop gang violence. Don’t believe for one second that “no one seems to care” about gang violence in the Cadillac area. There is alot of work going on and has gone on that you just aren’t aware of. Can we do more? Yes, we can. We are all volunteers who choose what to work on, when we think we can make a difference. Do you want to know what I think is “kind of funny”? People who do absolutely nothing but complain about the volunteer work of others. I hope you will start a web site and a committee and call it the STOPtheCadillacAreaGangs.com. I’ll come to your meetings; I’ll do what I can do. Communication is key to stopping the gang violence…and you have to start by getting people who live there to be the eyes and ears of the community and identify these thugs. How many neighborhood watches are in that immediate area? Everyone has to do their part to keep a community nice to live in. We already know South Robertson Blvd. isn’t a Shangri-la. But it’s a whole lot better than it was 10 years ago, thanks to us volunteers. I hope you will do your part instead of telling us that having strip club (with operators who have had prior prostitution arrests in their other club) is better than that meat packing business. Thanks. I look forward to joining your anti-gang movement.

Just a response to “Rickycat”-I have been actively involved in community outreach most of my life-through my church and various individual non profit groups. I have also volunteered at Castle Heights School and don’t even have children there (just friends kids). I do these things because I feel passionate about it. I think the fact that you referred to the kids in the Cadillac area as “thugs” shows exactly where your thinking is at. Labeling people, businesses, institutions without first hand knowledge is a dangerous thing. I also see you did not address anything else I wrote as far as the legality of a strip club on Robertson. Like I said, be careful what you wish for. You may then get a bar. Then you will indeed have problems with traffic, drunk driving, garbage in the streets and who knows what else.

Informed, I referred to violent gang members as thugs. Big difference. Thanks.

I went inside SKIN CABARET to find out what it is about. First of all, it seems that they are well secured and would not let Gang members near there business. Dress code was strict and the pricing at the club is for UPSCALE gentlemen. I do not think that 18 year old high school kids will feel at home there. I think this whole thing is pretty funny too. I was reading something off this site stating that KIDS AS YOUNG AS 18 will be admitted … that is a joke. KIDS AS YOUNG AS 18 are dying in the war in IRAQ and AFGHANISTAN everyday.

Worry about the gang, homeless, drug problems in Los Angeles. I agree with Informed, worry about the REAL PROBLEMS in our community,..
